Mexico 2007

During the summers of 2005, 2006, and 2007 students from UVa-Wise and three other schools have been able to study in Monterrey, Mexico with the help of a Title VI B grant from the Federal Department of Education written by George Hiller, Director of International Business and Education at the Southwest Center for Higher Education in Abingdon. George and Amelia Harris, Academic Dean at Wise, developed a week-long program designed to assist business students and any others interested in learning about how Mexico’s history and culture impact the manner in which business is done in that country.  Students lived and studied during that week at the Tec de Monterrey, one of the largest private institutions of higher education in Mexico.  During the mornings they had classes and in the afternoons they visited businesses which have ties with Southwest Virginia such as York (Bristol Compressors) and Escaleras (Strongwell).  They also visited the Tec de Monterrey, Campus Saltillo, and, in fact, UVa-Wise developed its sister institution relationship with the branch in Saltillo as a direct result of their visits to that institution.
