UVa-Wise Intramurals

ABOUT
The UVa-Wise Office of Intramurals offers students a wide variety of opportunities for both athletic and non-athletic competition.  Intramurals offers both major sports and single day events throughout the academic year.  Students and employees of the College are invited to participate and participation is free.  Additionally, each winner of either a single day or major sport event receives a free t-shirt!  An example of the 2011-2012 t-shirt logo can be seen below:

CAVALIER CUP CHAMPIONSHIP
The Cavalier Cup Championship is an All-Campus Championship points-system put in place to determine the best men's and women's intramural teams during the academic year.  The Cavalier Cup is a system in which individuals and teams accumulate points throughout the academic year by participating in intramural events.  Anyone wanting to participate in the Cavalier Cup must be listed on a Cavalier Cup Roster.  In order for teams to earn points for any major sport (see below for sports offered), 75% of that sport's roster must be members from a Cavalier Cup team; for example, if a team has 12 roster members for flag football, 9 of them must be on the Cavalier Cup Roster in order to obtain points.  Teams earn points based on participation, making the post-season tournament (if applicable), earning an overall #1 seed, finishing runner-up or winning a championship.  Earning points for single day events is even easier.  All members (up to 3) who participate in single day events can earn points for their Cavalier Cup Team by participation, finishing runner-up or winning an event.  100% of a team's roster must be comprised of individuals from the Cavalier Cup Roster for applicable events; for example, if 4 participants from "Team A" plays in a billiards tournament, up to 3 participants earn points.  The 3 highest finishing players will be awarded points for that respective team.  If it is an event such as 4x4 Wallyball, all four participants on that team must be listed on the Cavalier Cup Roster to obtain points.  It is not required by participants to be on a Cavalier Cup Roster, but is required for those interested in earning points.  Cavalier Cup Champions are recognized by winning t-shirts and their team name is engraved on a plaque with previous winners, which is located in the Intramural Office.  New for this year, all team winners will have an 8x10 photo placed along a "Wall of Champions."

 MAJOR SPORTS
Major intramural sports are comprised of 3-4 week seasons followed by a tournament.  Each major sport requires a team roster to be submitted by a designated deadline.  Rules and brackets for the current major sport are made available on this website when the sport's season is current (see menu at top of page).  Any individual wishing to participate who does not have enough members to field a team may contact Nick Marshall to be added to the Free Agent List.

There are currently 15 major sports:

SINGLE DAY EVENTS
All Single Day intramural events are 'show up and play' and are offered throughout the academic year.  While some events are only offered during a single semester, others are offered in both fall and spring semesters.  These events can be 'duo' events where participation can be during either day or evening times, or both.  Other events are offered solely during the day or evening.  Typical single day events, dates and times include:
