Physical Plant

The Physical Plant is compiled to four departments: Maintenance, Housekeeping, Landscaping, and Facilities Management. The thirty-two member staff is as diverse as the tasks they perform. It is the Physical Plant's job to maintain apporximately one half million square feet of building area and 400 acres of grounds.

The responsibility of the Physical Plant includes but is not limited to, providing housekeeping, maintaining heating and cooling, plumbing, electrical and fire suppression/alarm systems for all campus facilities. Mowing, trimming and providing all aesthetic landscaping as well as snow and ice removal are also duties that must be performed. A host of renovation and infrastructure upgrade projects are performed each year by the staff. Preventative maintenance and preparation of the buildings for occupancy is a major part of the daily ritual.

The Physical Plant staff is also responsible for setting up for special events throughout the year. These include such things as graduation, benefactors dinner, various conferences and a large variety of other student, staff and faculty events.

Each year these departments field over 1600 work requests, complete over 300 set-ups and receive over 2100 phone calls.
