Degree Programs: Pre Licensure Program

 

Description of Major

The Bachelor of Science in Nursing requires completion of specific general education requirements that all students who graduate from UVa-Wise must meet, as well as completion of upper division nursing major requirements.

Admission

Applicants who meet the following criteria are eligible to apply to the nursing major in the fall semester of the sophomore year (application does not guarantee acceptance and admission):

• Completion of Biology for Nurses
• Enrollment in Anatomy and Physiology
• Completion of English sequence
• Completion of, or exemption from, SEM 1001 & SEM 1002
• Completion of PHI 1030
• Minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale
• Minimum science GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale, with no grade lower than a C.

Candidates may be awarded provisional acceptance following the application process. Final acceptance is determined at the end of the fall semester of the sophomore year. Final acceptance is dependent upon the following:

• Completion of first semester of Anatomy and Physiology
• Maintaining minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75 on a 4.0 scale
• Maintaining minimum science GPA of 2.5 on a 4.0 scale, with no grade lower than a C.

All general education and pre-requisite courses must be completed prior to beginning the clinical nursing courses in the fall semester of the junior year.
