Technology Support Services offers training sessions open to all faculty and staff of the University of Virginia's College at Wise. Each session will be held in the Multimedia Lab located in Darden Hall Room 010.

Microsoft Office 2007
Including Word(creating new documents, formatting and editing, and other customizable features in Word), PowerPoint(creating new documents, slide transitioning and editing), Excel (creating new documents, converting data into graphs and charts, table and cell alignment and formatting, and formulas)
Mail Merge
These sessions will cover the basic steps to creating a successful and functional mail merge. Topics for exploration include finding lost data sources, creating new data sources, editing data sources, and opening older version mail merge documents in the newer version of Word.
Macromedia Contribute
These sessions will cover creating new web pages from current templates, creating new pages from blank templates, editing and maintaining websites, and other areas and issues upon request.
Digital Photography
These sessions will cover the basics of editing images for both personal and web site functionality. Some of the topics covered will be: resizing, correcting red-eye, auto-correcting, and more.
The Fundamentals of Web Design
These sessions will cover the basics of beginning web design and other areas and issues upon request.
Macromedia Dreamweaver
These sessions will cover the basic uses of Macromedia Dreamweaver HTML editor. The first session will cover the basic uses and functionality of the intricate program while the second and final session will explore the more advanced uses of the application.
Creating a CD-ROM
These sessions will cover creating a CD-ROM using the direct CD function as well as the data cd function, and other areas and issues upon request.
Organizing Files and Folders
These sessions will cover creating and organizing files and folders, saving to the active directory, customizing folder options, and other areas and issues upon request.
Protecting Your PC
These sessions will cover the steps to take to prevent any unwanted spy ware or other virus tools to infect your computer. All procedures covered in this class can be performed on both your work and home computers. Participants will learn how to decipher between bogus and legitimate emails and pop-ups as well as how to prevent future occurrences. As always, any other issues, questions or concerns may be brought to each session.
PC Troubleshooting
Ever wondered if you should call the Help Desk about a small problem? Have no fear! This course focuses on how you can troubleshoot your own problems. Can you not connect to the internet? Is your computer running slow? Most problems can be fixed with a simple reboot! This classes takes you through a brief training session on how to locate red flags and quickly correct them.
FireFox
These sessions will introduce participants to the newly released Internet Explorer web browser alternative. The sessions will cover basic usage and advantages of the applications such as tabs, pop-up blocking and more! Personnel interested in using the new browser are urged to attend these sessions.
Adobe Acrobat
These sessions will cover the basic uses of Acrobat and how to create a PDF. Topics also include converting documents to PDFs and using other Adobe full version features.
Scanning Documents and Images
These sessions will cover scanning, editing, and other feature available when scanning documents.
