In early 2008, The University of Virginia's College at Wise began a search for a new student information system vendor that would meet the quickly growing needs of our students, faculty and administrators. It was evident that the College needed a solution that would grow with the College and provide online information services that would allow students to quickly find information on their admission, financial aid, course registration, and programs as well as general College announcement and event information.
After a general survey of students, faculty and administrators, The University of Virginia's College at Wise selected Jenzabar's EX Total Campus Management solution to aid the College in meeting its mounting information technology needs. Representatives from all administrative areas were involved in implementing the Jenzabar software solution across the College.
The new system will be “going live” the week of April 6-13, 2009. One of the more notable improvements will be a new web-based student/faculty portal. This new web portal will be called “My UVa-Wise” (found at https://my.uvawise.edu) and will feature many new online services. Logins will be enabled the week of system “go-live” in April.
Some of these new features include:
- Standard online registration and grade entry/retrieval
- Campus announcements and events
- Web course schedules and course search functions
- Departmental event calendars and organizational group calendars
- Admission, registration and financial aid information and alerts
- Online academic progress information
- Major/minor course needs updates (in July)
- Online course history
- Online degree audit and program “what-if” tools (in July)
- Online fee payment options (later in 2009)
- Chat and discussion groups
- And a customizable “My Pages” portal area to house students' most important information
The Office of Information Technology led this project but it is clear that this project was not just an IT project but a project led by all administrative areas to meet the needs of the College.
