What is Online Learning like?
If you are familiar with using email and the Internet, you will enjoy online learning at UVa-Wise! We use Moodle at UVa-Wise to facilitate online courses. Moodle allows you, your classmates and your professor communicate and collaborate together. You will be surprised how flexible, meaningful and fun online learning will be at UVa-Wise!
The following screenshots will give you and idea of what Moodle looks like and how students navigate online courses.
The entry screen (below) for Moodle gives students announcements, upcoming event information and a listing of online courses available. Most important, it is where students login to get into their online courses. After you have logged in, you will have access to the courses where you are enrolled.

Once of you have found your course in the course area listings, you will see what the professor has posted including important course documents, online materials, online quizes, discussions and even audio/video conferences.

Below is one of the online learning discussion forums where you will discuss with your classmates and professor course topics and questions on weekly readings. You will find this extremely engaging and meaningful to your course subject matter.

Most courses use Real Time chat sessions to discuss topics with the class as a whole. Chat sessions are a great way to stay in touch with the class and collaborate on a course topic or discussion.

Some of our professors use DimDim for voice and video conferencing and meetings with students. Dimdim allows our professors to have face to face meetings with students with computer webcams and microphones. Dimdim is very easy to use and great for student questions and teacher answers! Below is a screencapture of Dimdim!
