Quality Enhancement Plan
"Students Engaged:
A Culture of Reading, Writing, and Communicating."
In 2004, the University of Virginia's College at Wise began work on a comprehensive Quality Enhancement Plan (QEP) that would satisfy requirements for reaffirmation of accreditation with the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools (SACS), a regional accrediting body.
The QEP, which covers the period of fall semester 2006 through fall 2011, will enhance the academic expectations and experience of first year students through:
1. The initiation of freshmen into a culture of reading, writing and communication through a common reading; an extended liberal arts seminar; and campus programming linked to the reading and the seminar.
2. A comprehensive first-year experience that includes an extended liberal arts seminar; extended orientation and welcome week; and culminating experiences.
