High School Leadership Retreat
Held annually, the High School Leadership Retreat provides an opportunity for up to 10 student leaders from area high schools to enhance their leadership abilities. Sessions will provide opportunities to both initiate and sharpen valuable leadership skills. There is no cost for attendees or their advisors. The 2013 event will be held on Friday, October 25.
The annual Holly Ball is held each November/December. The 2013 event will be held on Friday, December 6 at 10 pm-2 am in the Slemp Student Center. Semi-formal/formal attire is requested for this dance. A valid Cavs Card ID is required for admission. Each student may be accompanied by one guest with ID.
Homecoming events include the tradition to recognize the outstanding spirit of UVa-Wise clubs & organizations. Homecoming 2013 is scheduled for the weekend of September 28. The Highland Cavaliers will take on Union College with a 6 pm kickoff at Carl Smith Stadium.
The Silver Saber Spirit Competition is conducted on a point system awarded to the top-spirited/best performing organization for each of the many scheduled events. Many contests will be featured at 5 pm on Friday, September 27 for the Meet the Cavs Pep Rally on McCraray Lawn. The winner of the Silver Saber Spirit Competition will be announced at the annual Saturday Homecoming football contest. The winning organization will received a Silver Saber Spirit trophy, addition of the organization name to the Silver Saber winners' plaque and a $600 prize (sponsored by the SGA and the Alumni Association). The Red & Gray 5K and 1-mile Fun Walk 2013 will be held on Saturday, September 28. All participants receive a free water bottle! Event day check-in begins at 8 am at David J. Prior Convocation Center. Both events start at 9 am from the Convocation Center and will complete a course throughout the UVa-Wise campus. Registration form is linked at the top of the page. One of the most-cherished UVa-Wise traditions, introduction of the Homecoming Court and announcement of the Homecoming Queen and King will be conducted at half-time of the Cavs football contest. Online nominations and elections are held in the weeks preceding Homecoming weekend. [results archive]

Lighting of Crockett Hall
Each November/December, the SGA coordinates the holiday lighting of Crockett Hall. Festivities include a brief program followed by hot chocolate and other refreshments. The 2013 event will be held on Tuesday, December 3 at 6 pm.
This annual scholarship pageant is held during the spring semester. The 2014 pageant will be held on March 1.
Members of each of the SGA Branches have weekly office hours to provide members of the student body an opportunity to share their thoughts and concerns about campus issues. Spring 5K & 1-Mile Walk
The spring 2014 event is the Chancellor's Cavs for a Cure 5K and 1-Mile Hope Walk to be held on Saturday, April 5. Registration begins at the Slemp Student Center at 7:30 am and the race begins at 8 am. It celebrates the inauguration of Donna Henry as the eighth chancellor at UVa-Wise and supports the UVa-Wise Cavs for a Cure Relay for Life team. See top of page for registration form link.

All students enrolled for six or more semester hours at the College are considered members of the Student Government Association during the time of their enrollment.
Weekly meetings are held each Friday at 1 pm in the Dogwood Room on the fifth floor of the C. Bascom Slemp Student Center. All meetings are open to the public.
