The Summer Immersion Program allows students to expand their linguistic ability and explore the rich history and civilization of Spain in Valladolid. This city, founded in the 11th century during the realm of Alfonso VI, is today a lively, attractive city of about 320,000. Important venue in the history of Spain, Valladolid and its province is well known for its fine historical buildings and is within easy access to historical cities of central Spain: Salamanca, Leon, Zamora, Madrid and Toledo. Early summer temperatures tend to stay in the 70s (F).

Admission Requirements: Students must have completed the elementary level of college Spanish (Span 102/103 at UVA-Wise).Students who successfully complete the program will earn four course credits. Students will receive a letter grade for the course.

Accommodations: Students are housed and eat meals with middle-class Spanish host families accustomed to hosting American students.

Travel Activities: The program includes group trips to Madrid, Salamanca, León, Segovia, as well as short excursions to various local sites and museums. Lectures precede the field trips in order to provide students with the necessary cultural and historical background.

Program Fees: The estimated comprehensive fee will be $ 3,200 which covers round-trip transportation from a designated east coast airport to Valladolid, room and board, primary medical and accident insurance, transportation for directed excursions, and admission to selected museums. Not included in the program fee are tuition for the course and all other incidental expenses.

A $25.00 non-refundable fee must accompany the completed application form. A $200.00 non-refundable confirmation payment is due within two weeks of acceptance into the program. Billing for the balance of the program fee will occur in April for payment in April 28th.
