Student Support Services

TRiO Student Support Services logo red and blackStudent Support Services helps students on the path toward graduation by providing academic support services that help them navigate the "college experience" and assist them in reaching their academic goals.


Eligible students are enrolled at The University of Virginia's College at Wise and meet one or more of the following criteria:

  • First generation college student
    (neither parent/guardian has a bachelor's degree)
  • Limited income
  • Physical or learning disability

Students must also:

  • Be U.S. citizens or meet residency requirements for Federal financial aid
  • Demonstrate a need for academic support

Student Support Services (SSS) at UVa-Wise is funded by the U.S. Department of Education in the amount of $284,754. Since its inception at the College in 1973, SSS has provided academic support services to thousands of eligible students.
