Friends throughout the UVa-Wise community,
We are deeply saddened by the tragic shootings on the Virginia Tech campus and our thoughts and prayers are, and will remain, with the Virginia Tech community. We extend our deepest sympathy to the grieving families, classmates, faculty members, colleagues, and friends.
We, too, are affected both directly and indirectly by these recent events, as some in the UVa-Wise community have family and friends who study, teach, or work at Virginia Tech. I wish to remind students, faculty, and staff that the Center for Student Development and its counselors are available to offer their support.
UVa-Wise will honor the memories and lives of those lost in the following ways:
Today, at 2 p.m., the carillon bells in the Chapel of All Faiths will toll for five minutes as the Virginia Tech community gathers in Blacksburg for their memorial convocation. I encourage all within the College community to pause and reflect in silence for those lost to this tragedy and for the loved ones who must go on amidst their grief.
Also, today at 5 p.m., a ceremony of support and remembrance will be held in the Chapel of All Faiths. A memorial book will be available for those who wish to express their condolences.
On Thursday, April 19, at 8 p.m., UVa-Wise students will hold a candlelight vigil at the campus lake.
Our hearts, our minds, and our prayers are with the Virginia Tech community.
