Biloxi Blues presented by Montana Repertory Theatre
April 2, 2013 - 7:30 p.m., Performing Arts Center, J.W. Adams Combined School Pound, VA
Admission: $12 adults, $8 seniors (55+), $6 students K-12, college students (with ID) and children under 5 FREE
Biloxi Blues is a comedy about young men going off to war. These men are universal soldiers facing the same fears, anxieties and loneliness that grip all young recruits about to encounter the ultimate test of combat. Mr. Simon brings his great sense of humor and humanity to every word of this magnificent play.
Neil Simon's hit play follows the adventures of Eugene Morris Jerome and his fellow Army inductees as they struggle through basic training near Biloxi, Misissippi, in 1943. An aspiring writer who sees himself as an outsider observing the craziness around him, Eugene hopes to somehow remain "neutral ... like Switerzerland." He spends much of his free time recounting conversations and impressions in his journal, feeling a little ashamed for betraying the "secret and private thoughts" of his fellow soldiers.
Now one of the oldest and most respected touring companies in the country, Montana Repertory Theatre was established as a professional touring company in 1967, providing professional theatre to our own and neighboring Western states at an affordable cost. Our mission is to tell the great stories of our world to enlighten, develop and celebrate the human spirit in an ever-expanding community.
This program is funded in part by the Virginia Commission for the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts.

Their concert programs include jazz standards, music from the great American songbook, blues and modern popular tunes done in jazz style. The talent and conversational stage presence of this duo combine to provide and engaging, accessible and entertaining musical experience for audiences of all ages.
Francis Stout of the former Folk Arts Revival Society in Rockingham County, Virginia has presented Kirkland and Carlson in concert several times. Stout says, "What sets them apart from many other jazz musicians, I feel, is their drawing on so many styles and worlds of music to reach out to a variety of audiences. This brings jazz to people who may have come in thinking 'I don't think I like jazz,' but who leave thinking "Wow! That was cool!"
