The Wesley Foundation has many ways for you to get involved and connect with other students and God.
Kick-Back: Celebrate the end of the day by kicking back and relaxing at the Wesley Foundation! You can catch someone hanging out at the Foundation almost every afternoon! Find us on Facebook to see what we're up to!. Activities will be planned for your enjoyment, such as movies, games, bowling outings, and so forth. Plus, snacks are usually provided.
Wesley Outreach Projects: Several times throughout the school year, we will be involved in outreach projects in the area. We participate in at least one mission activity per month.
Alternative Spring Break: Recent Spring Break mission opportunities have included working with Harvest of Hope (Society of St. Andrew) in Orlando, FL; VBS in Sudan, Africa; Children's ministry and construction/clean-up in Jarabacoa, Dominican Republic; home repair with Mountain T.O.P. in Tennessee; and Hurricane Katrina relief in Pascagoula, Mississippi.
May Mission Madness: We will work on mission projects the week between finals and commencement in the spring. Watch for more details!
KOINONIA, Thursdays at 7:00 p.m.: Similar to what you may have experienced in youth group before coming to college. At Koinonia (Koy-noh-knee-ah) we start with snacks, play games, and then spend some time sharing in conversation about topics of importance to our spiritual growth.
Prayer Groups: Each Tuesday following worship you'll have a chance to be connected with a small prayer group. Groups are led by our student leaders and spend time praying with and for each other.
Bible Study: Interested in getting DEEP into the Word? This group discusses a book of the Bible. We talk about historical context, application for today, and translation issues, among many other things.
Reading Group: Each semester a book is chosen by students to read and discuss. This groups meets weekly and discusses 1-4 chapters (depending on how long the chapters are!). Books studied recently include: Blue Like Jazz, Velvet Elvis, Fearless, Breaking Free and The Five Love Languages for Singles.
Other Groups: If you're looking for something different in a small group just let Beth know. We strive for student-led small groups that are what you want. We'll work with you!
VESPERS, Tuesdays at 6:00 p.m.: Vespers is traditionally a service of evening prayer. Come out on a Tuesday evening and you'll find authentic and moving worship followed by small prayer group time. The worship service is blended (you'll hear both traditional hymns and contemporary Christian music, as well as some secular songs). The goal of Vespers is to enable you to give yourself in worship to God, and for you to receive God's Word. The small prayer groups enable you to get connected with a few peers you can trust who will hold you in prayer as you hold them in prayer throughout each week.
Area Churches: There are a number of churches in our area with Sunday morning worship services. Here is a listing of the closest United Methodist Churches and their worship times. The closest congregation is Trinity UMC-Wise, located on Main Street in downtown Wise.
